The Australian film industry experienced substantial growth and recognition on a global scale, but it also boasts a highly competitive tax incentive program for filmmakers, which translates to cost savings and greater financial returns for investors. Producing films in WA is expected to provide significant job opportunities and benefits to the local economy, and invigorate tourism in the regions following their release. Dirty Creatures set in the South West, can have a a significant impact on the region’s economy – estimated in supporting an estimated 150 jobs over the project’s life and generating an estimated $5.6 million short-term benefit for the local economy. Investing in Dark Jungle set in Indonesia, will see similar positive effect as this has the potential to grow the local economy and create jobs in both countries. This aligns with State Agency Screenwest’s strategy. Future proof employment with the studio being built with training opportunities. In 2020-21 Indonesia was WA’s 11th largest trading partner with total trade valued at $3.5 billion. There is a high technology uptake, Indonesia’s media and entertainment market is in the middle of a high growth period with streaming services investing heavily into original productions in the region.
