Federal Small Business Minister Dr Anne Aly has thrown her support behind the City of Joondalup’s ambitious 2050 vision, describing it as “a blueprint that builds on Joondalup’s many strengths”.
Speaking at the City’s Business Forum – Joondalup 2050: Investing in the Vision, the Minister commended Joondalup’s thriving small business community and encouraged stakeholders to seize the opportunity to grow alongside the region.
“Joondalup has endless possibility. It’s a great place to work, live and play – a place where innovation, education and community come together,” she said.
A city with strong foundations

Minister Aly’s connection to Joondalup is personal and longstanding. She studied and taught at Edith Cowan University, one of the City’s anchor institutions, and has long supported initiatives that drive education, health and multicultural communities.
Today, Joondalup is recognised as one of Perth’s most investment-ready regions. With over 500,000 people living within a 20-minute catchment, a Gross Regional Product of $8.23 billion, more than 58,000 jobs and 12,800 registered businesses, the region offers a compelling case for developers, entrepreneurs and investors.
The Joondalup 2050 Vision builds on these strengths. The plan sets out to create a dynamic, globally connected and sustainable city centre, leveraging its university, hospital and innovation hubs, while also encouraging greater economic density, improved infrastructure and transformative projects such as the Ocean Reef Marina.
Partnerships to unlock growth
L-R: City of Joondalup’s James Pearson facilitated a panel discussion with Small Business Development Commission’s Saj Abdoolakhan, Property Council WA’s Nicola Brischetto, and Tanya Trevisan Consulting’s Tanya Trevisan.
Mayor Albert Jacob said the City is ready to collaborate with industry, investors and the community to bring the long-term vision to life.
“This is not just a concept – it’s a blueprint. We’ve laid the foundation. Now we’re inviting collaborators to help shape a globally connected, future-ready CBD,” he said.
“Our priorities for Joondalup’s future align with both State and Federal Government’s priorities, especially those championed by Minister Aly such as supporting small businesses to scale and thrive and building a diverse and robust economy.
“It’s been a successful journey so far, but there are still many chapters to be written in the Joondalup story with transformative projects like the Ocean Reef Marina and plans to increase urban density and diversification in the City Centre.”
Looking ahead
The City says its 2050 vision will be underpinned by innovation, education and sustainability, positioning Joondalup as a hub for investment, research and new industries.
For WA businesses and investors, the opportunity lies in shaping not only the next chapter of the region’s development, but also contributing to a long-term blueprint designed to make Joondalup a true “city of possibility”.
