AVESS Energy is an Australian vanadium flow battery (VFB) company at the cutting edge of long-duration energy storage (LDES) technology. As we shift into a dynamic growth phase, the Company is positioning itself to become Australia’s first manufacturer and supplier of commercial VFBs – a breakthrough for LDES and the Australian market.
A notable shift is happening in the energy storage market, with announcements for big battery installations focusing on 4 and 8-hour durations. The era of LDES is upon us, and new solutions will be required for the evolving energy storage landscape.
LDES has long been proposed as the key to stabilising the grid for reliable renewable energy dispatch. While dominant lithium-ion technology can be scaled for up to 8-hours in duration, it poses higher levelised cost of storage (LCOS) and risks related to fire hazards, short asset life and recycling inefficiencies.
In contrast, VFB offer fire-resistance, have longer asset life and their electrolyte chemistry is infinitely recyclable, supporting a circular economy and contributing to high LCOS competitiveness at durations above 6 hours. Scalable into the hundreds of megawatts, VFB is a viable and compelling alternative solution for large scale renewable energy storage.
AVESS Energy (AVESS or the Company) is an Australian energy storage company focused on locally manufacturing VFB with proprietary 25kW stack technology that is differentiated, commercial-ready and unique to the Australian market. Having reached the milestone of a minimum viable product (MVP) with Australia’s first locally manufactured 50kW/200kWh VFB module, we are now preparing for MVP trial demonstration with Atlantic Vanadium (Windimurra) and quotations for commercial trial deployment.
The Company is seeking a cornerstone investor to underpin the scaling of manufacturing capabilities and market expansion. With discussions ongoing with strategic partners, AVESS Energy is well-placed to capture the significant revenue-generating potential of Australia’s nascent VFB sector.
