Seeking investment value of $50 Million

Project Summary

Gingerah Energy, partnering with the Karajarri Traditional Lands Association, the representative body corporate of the Karajarri People, is at the forefront of the energy transition by harnessing the natural resources of the Gingerah area with the support and wisdom of the Karajarri People. Project Meridien combines solar, wind, batteries and limited gas generation to power an AI training data centre up to one gigawatt capacity.

Traditional grid infrastructure is increasingly constrained. Large-scale, dedicated renewable energy precincts represent a necessary evolution in power delivery for compute-intensive operations. This land, situated in the locality of Gingerah hosts abundant natural resources including the earth’s heat, solar irradiation, wind and groundwater. Gingerah Energy together with the Karajarri People identified the opportunity to build the Gingerah Energy Hub, harnessing the natural energy resources of the Great Sandy Desert to provide the necessary digital infrastructure to meet global growing demands for large scale data processing facilities while minimising environmental impact.

The development of a gigawatt-scale renewable energy source, used for powering hyperscale data infrastructure, will provide firm renewable power and scalable data-centre capacity for sustainable economic growth.

Project Description

The International Energy Agency projects data centres to consume 1,000 TWH annually by 2030, while BloombergNEF forecasts growth to over 3,700 TWH by 2050, illustrating huge increases in electricity demand in future years. Project Meridien plans to pave the path in sustainable electricity consumption with its next-generation clean-energy and AI-infrastructure precinct delivered through a landmark partnership with the Karajarri People.

Developed by Gingerah Energy in partnership with the Karajarri Traditional Owners, the project has completed site characterisation and preliminary technical and commercial feasibility assessments over a secured 31,000 km² site, with direct access to the Indian Ocean for subsea fibre connectivity to Asia-Pacific markets. The site is capable of supporting renewable generation capacity sufficient to power a 1-gigawatt hyperscale AI campus, with long-term expansion potential, signalling multi-gigawatt expansion capability. The project is designed to deliver globally competitive, large-scale, renewable energy-backed compute capacity serving Asia-Pacific; the fastest-growing AI market and home to over half of the world’s population within overlapping time zones.

At the intended 1GW scale, the project would be around 100 times larger than typical metropolitan data centres currently operating in Australia, with modelling indicating a supply of power at almost half the cost of energy in Singapore. Project Meridien is targeting hyperscale cloud providers, sovereign AI initiatives and emerging AI compute platforms seeking secure, scalable and low-carbon infrastructure. The development will attract multi-billion-dollar capital investment and position Western Australia as a strategic hub in the global AI economy.

The project purports a scalable, off-grid AI and sustainable energy centre addressing the fundamental constraints of hyperscale expansion: Power Availability, Land Access, and Grid Capacity. The outline includes:

  1. Initial Phase – 100 MW hyperscale data centre with scalable architecture designed for AI and HPC workloads.
  2. Expansion Pathway – 1 GW+ IT load capacity scalable to multi-gigawatt renewable generation across 275 km² development zone.
  3. Firm Renewable Power – 24/7 supply of multi-gigawatt capacity using solar, wind and long-duration storage for dedicated, firmed power independent of grid constraints.
  4. Secured Site – 31,000 km² utilising an Indigenous Land Use Agreement with the Karajarri People provides land certainty and streamlined access across exceptional renewable resource area.
  5. Strategic Connectivity – ~55 ms to Singapore. Redundant fibre routes provide low-latency pathways to Singapore, APAC, Pilbara and other domestic markets.
  6. Infrastructure Ready – Integrated logistics access via ports, roads and airports with modular development approach for rapid deployment.
  7. Optimised for AI – PUE < 1.4 Closed-loop liquid cooling and efficiency-optimised design supporting high-density compute for hyperscalers and AI training.
  8. ESG Leadership – Partnership with Traditional Owners delivers long-term employment, training pathways, and culturally informed development.
  9. Sustainability – Harnessing the abundant renewable energy resources of the Gingerah region including solar, geothermal and wind energy, delivering a reliable, cost-effective energy source with the least environmental disturbance.

Investment Opportunity Details

Initial feasibility studies have been completed, and front-end engineering and design is expected to start soon. Gingerah Energy is progressing toward pre-FEED and environmental referral at State and Federal levels, with a target Final Investment Decision by 2029.

The project is seeking experienced strategic partners across energy generation, digital infrastructure development, fibre connectivity and AI compute platforms. Equity investment opportunities are available, with a minimum commitment of A$50 million to support detailed project definition, permitting and long-lead procurement. First-stage commercial operations are targeted for 2032, with full-scale development potentially reaching capacity by mid-2030.

Guide on creating an investment project

1. Add investment project details

Tell investors about your investment project:

  • Describe your investment opportunity sufficiently for potential investors to understand the project and why you are seeking external funds of investment.
  • Articulate your investor proposition. This is your opportunity to share your story and your vision to an engaged investor audience.
  • Provide specific information in relation to the investment project – corporate entity/ownership, ABN / ACN, trading names investment value, investment type/sector and region,
  • Describe whether or not the investment project has an indigenous involvement and/or engagement.
  • Upload quality images and video link if you have them.
  • Provide location details (optional) so we can put it on a map.
  • Provide primary contact details to receive potential investor enquiries.Upload any other project information that you want potential investors to download that supports your investor proposition or "investment pitch".

2. State the impact and alignment of your project to WA investment strategies

When you create your Investment Project you will need to provide details on how it aligns with WA State Governments business sentiment and investment strategies – for example, the impact on jobs, tourism and the Western Australian economy.

3. Submit your investment project for review

Your investment project will be reviewed by our panel to ensure your investment opportunity is an "investment ready" project and satisfies our guidelines and approval process.

Investment ready means that the investment proponent has a clearly articulated business and/or project plan which demonstrates:

  • project feasibility and delivery, including risk management.
  • the strength, experience, capabilities and capacity to execute the proposed project;
  • a growth plan, and how that growth will be funded;
  • how the investment proponent will need to be in the correct business structure.

3. Submit your project for review

We will review your Project Brief and work with you to make sure it is ready for investors.

4. Approval and listing

We communicate with you via email as you create, save, submit and revise your investment opportunity. Our team may contact you directly during the review and revision process. We will always confirm by email after your investment project has been approved by us for listing.
